adieu

It was not the first time that they had fought. He had been rude enough to have mocked her sincerity towards the relationship. And she was equally rude to have showered him with abusive words.  She didn’t feel obliged to stay back. He didn’t feel obliged to call her back.

She came out of the restaurant, clueless as she was about the direction she took, confused as she was about the whole situation. She moved to the left and then to the right until gravity rooted her to the 2 foot square that she seemed to possess at that particular instant.

The door opened and the door closed swinging forth the lanky frame she was so familiar with. She saw him cross the road, bump into people whom he didn’t know, dodge vehicles that came his way, and then disappear into the perspective formed out of the darkness. And for the first time in their 3 year long relationship, she realized how much she loved this man. How much she wanted him to be on her side.

He came out of the restaurant, his eyes searching for her. Seeking her out in the evening crowd was difficult. The young girls from the college had started pouring onto the streets. They were definitely worth a watch, but not today. He wanted to see her. He crossed the road, moved ahead with the crowd, embracing the darkness just to catch a glimpse of her.

Parting can be painful. But when ego tops all human emotions, then parting is reduced to simply mean taking two directions. Leaving behind such as a sweet sorrow.
